BELLO WATCH: Annie Wersching in “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES”

BELLO sat down with another newbie vampire, Annie Wersching, who plays ‘Lily Salvatore’ on CW’s long-standing show, The Vampire Diaries. Wersching was introduced to this phenomenon of a series in the sixth season, where she definitely managed to ruffle a few feathers.

No stranger to the TV world, Wersching has dominated this sector with appearances in 24, Castle, Dallas, Extant and Bosch. Reflecting on her beautiful family, her experience as an actress and her dream co-star to work alongside, success is clearly on the cards for this timeless beauty.

BELLO WATCH: So I understand you were born and raised in Missouri. What was it that attracted you to the entertainment world growing up?

ANNIE WERSCHING: Yep I grew up in St. Louis. My dad was a theatre director and Opera singer and my parents even had their own theatre in St. Charles, MO before I was born. So, I suppose it was in my blood!  By the time I came along my mom ran a flower shop and I was always there and constantly surrounded by creativity!

BW: You competed in Irish Dance when you were younger – is that something you still practice now?

AW: I still kick up my heels every St. Patrick’s Day…back in St. Louis in a pub usually, but now I can barely breathe after just 2-minutes! That’s hard stuff!

BW: You now have two children, what would your advice be to them if they wanted to follow in yours and your husband’s acting footsteps?

AW: Don’t!!!  If there’s anything else you can imagine yourself doing, then go do that!  Ha! No I mean. . . If they came to us later in life and really had a strong desire to get into theatre or something we’d, of course, be nothing but supportive, but it can be a hard, inconsistent life. We certainly won’t be dragging them around to auditions any time soon. . . :)

BW: You have done a lot of television in your acting career and one of the most iconic shows you appeared on was 24. Tell me about your experience on that show?

AW: 24 was one of the most incredible experiences. . . I was a HUGE fan of the show before I was cast, so it was completely surreal to be doing scenes with Jack Bauer and Chloe O’Brian. Then add to that, Renee Walker being one of the most bad ass, best characters. . . needless to say I was in heaven!

BW: More recently you have been cast as Damon and Stefan’s mother, ‘Lily Salvatore’, in The Vampire Diaries, which has an amazingly intense and incredible fan-base. Were you a fan of the show prior to being on it?

AW: I hadn’t seen any Vampire Diaries before I was cast, but I was a good little girl and quickly caught up on the first 3 seasons! (Which is A LOT!)

BW: In what ways would you say you relate to your character, Lily?

AW: Lily has (or shall I say had?) a lot of flaws, but eventually we saw her protective fierce maternal side. . . I certainly relate to her on that front. She ended up having such a great arc and learning and adapting which isn’t always easy. I hope I can do the same in my life :)

BW: What is the cast and the atmosphere like when the cameras aren’t rolling?

AW: The atmosphere on The Vampire Diaries when the cameras stopped was relaxed, goofy and fun. My kind of place!

BW: As I said you have appeared in a lot of TV series’, The Vampire Diaries, 24, Bosch, Castle, Extant etc. What would you say has been your favourite character to play so far?

AW: I’m pretty sure if I were to pick a favorite, Renee Walker would kick my ass. Lily Salvatore would quite literally bite my head off. Brasher would pretend she didn’t care, but would be wounded deep down. . .  :)   And God help me I don’t want to know what evil Dr. Kelly Nieman would do. . . Eeeeks!

BW: Your husband, Stephen Full, appeared in an episode of Castle, where you play ‘Dr. Kelly Nieman’. Would you ever want to collaborate on a film/TV series with him in the future?

AW: Steve is ridiculously talented and is SO gifted when it comes to comedy and writing and improv and knowing how to make something work, so I’d be intimidated for sure, but I would jump on working with him in a heartbeat. Are you kidding! It would be so fun! One day hopefully. . .

BW: Do you have a strong desire to work with any particular actor in the future?

AW: My strongest desire is to work with people that are good. Really good. And committed. People who show up and are ready to kick a scene’s ass. . . who know their lines and intentions!  It sounds so simple, but wow you’d be surprised. . . Oh the stories I could tell. . . :) But of course it would be amazing to work with Ruffalo, Blanchett, Denzel, Winslet, Spacey, Norton, Hanks and on and on and on.

BW: You must be so busy in the week with acting and shooting, so what does your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?

AW: A perfect Sunday afternoon would be snuggling and laughing and adventuring with all my boys. . .
