Sunday, June 3rd, I sat in awe of my television screen, watching the most beautiful women from all over the country, literally!  Sunday was the annual Miss USA Pageant, showcasing each state’s contestant, all vying for the chance to reign as 2012’s Miss United States of America.

I had to comment on how these girls were not afraid to wear full on “pageant makeup”!  Full coverage foundation, perfectly applied blush, impeccably sculpted browns, and big, flirty lashes graced all of their beautiful faces! The uniqueness of pageant makeup is that a guest in the 50th row, will have no problem seeing that bright pink blush from the stage! The full on glamour is why I adore pageant makeup!  It must be ‘naturally’ dramatic and a heavier coverage, to withstand the lights on the stage and the flash of HD photography.

The winner, was Olivia Culpo, aka, Miss Rhode Island. The 20 year old cellist, attends Boston University, and wowed the crowd in her lilac bikini and fuschia evening gown!  Olivia received an unusual question about the fairness of a transgender woman versus a natural born woman winning the Miss USA pageant.  Her response, was that it’s a free country, and people make necessary changes in order to be happy.  Check her out below, being crowned by 2011 Miss USA.

My 3 favorite looks of the night were from Miss USA–Olivia Culpo, Miss Maryland, and Miss New Jersey!  Olivia wore a flesh tone shadow on her eyelid, but added drama with a little smokiness in the corners.  A great option for a look like this, MAC ‘Naked’ Pigment and ‘Typographic’ eyeshadow (  Her lips remained a gorgeous shade of pink toned coral.  Nars Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in ‘Calliope’, with ‘Chelsea Girls’ Lip Laquer can give you this fab lip!  (

Miss Maryland proved to be stiff competition for Olivia, right up until the final minutes!  She can be seen below with a beautiful rose colored blush, like NARS ‘Dolce Vita’ ( with a beautiful highlight perfectly applied atop, think NARS ‘Albatross’!  Her lashes were divine; Very wispy and flirty, like Ardell’s demi wispy lashes! (

My final beauty of the night is Miss New Jersey, rocking a sharply cut crease and perfectly sculpted brow! The precision of her eyebrows can be achieved with MAC eyebrow crayon in ‘Lingering’ (; and the sexy darkness of that cut crease can be yours with Sugarpill ‘Bulletproof’ eyeshadow! ( .

One things for sure, the tradition of full on pageant makeup has not died, and is here to stay!  I, for one, am very happy about it! Of course, this more dramatic technique of applying makeup is not suitable for everyday, but I think we can appreciate seeing a deeply cut contour on the cheeks once a year in this annual competition!

These were my favorite looks from the Miss USA Pageant Competition, what were yours?
