OUT ON THE TOWN: Summer Edition July 5, 2017 by Hiko Mitsuzuka @TheFirstEcho Summer is just getting started, and we’re already filling up our calendar with a bunch of events happening on both coasts… A DRAGTACULAR BRUNCH The new-and-improved House of Blues Anaheim recently launched the World Fabulous Drag Brunch (the first Saturday of each month). The super-charged, hysterical, and highly entertaining show is emceed by actress-author-YouTuber and former RuPaul’s Drag Racer Willam (right) and features wild entertainment paired with bottomless mimosas and an all-you-can-eat, foodgas-worthy buffet of Southern-inspired fare like jambalaya, jalapeno-cheese cornbread, collard greens, a prime rib carving station, homemade pastries, and more. (Our favorite: the mac and cheese) Willam and his gaggle of gals will delight and entertain you with music, moves and a dose of comedy (look out for an unforgettable Adele parody — sung on a hoverboard). Perfect for any occasion on a wild, glitz-filled Saturday morning with friends. HAVING A ‘BALL’ IN NEW YORK Griffyn New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival featured island vibes and the Sound of Rum at its CASA BACARDÍ event space. After a performance on the Bacardi Stage, local Brooklyn DJ The Range surprised fans for an intimate encore there. Just a few lucky attendees were able to enjoy a close up set with The Range, who sipped on some punch during the set. The Avalanches Next door, acts including Rae Sremmurd and Rufus du Sol had the Bacardi Stage packed with fans all day and night. Rae Sremmurd’s crowd was overflowing with festival goers, as the duo played a host of their hit songs and crowd-surfed during a high energy set. To close out the night, BANKS sang in an intimate performance, asking attendees to put down their phones and stay in the moment with her. LET THE JUICES FLOW Over in West Hollywood, Kreation Organic opened its latest store, continuing its mission to provide healthy and delicious drinks designed to invigorate the body and mind. To celebrate, we attended an exclusive, grand opening event featuring infused pressed juice cocktails, a live DJ, raw mask demonstrations, and a few tasty dishes. OUTFEST TURNS 35 For 35 years, the Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival has been both a family gathering for the community, and a launchpad for queer films and filmmakers. And it doesn’t take an anniversary year to know that the Opening Night Gala has been the best party of the summer for decades. The VIP Pre-Party is the see-and-be-seen event where attendees rub shoulders with festival filmmakers and celebrities. Shannon Swindle, James Beard semifinalist Pastry Chef at Tom Collichio’s Craft, has asked some of his friends from the top restaurants in the city to join him to give us a taste of the best L.A. has to offer. Inside the theater it begins with the presentation of the Achievement Award followed by the Opening Night movie, God’s Own Country. The night doesn’t end there. Outside and under the stars, guests will grab a bite from one of the dozen restaurants and a glass of beer from Angel City Brewery or a Finlandia vodka cocktail.
