At the mere age of 23, Ryan McCartan’s career is already soaring. The Minnesota-born charmer is a double threat in the entertainment industry. He showed off his singing chops in the TV movie The Rocky Horror Picture show and his acting chops as a series regular in Disney’s hit show Liv and Maddie. The aspiring entertainer sat down with BELLO to talk about his next steps on his road to stardom.

How did you begin your career in LA being from Minnesota?

I started because my sister came out of the womb singing and dancing and I think my parents discovered I could sing because I was making fun of her!

And what happened from there?

My manager! Nancy is an absolute angel, not just the best manager but the best person ever. I am so eternally grateful to work with her. I think that’s the cornerstone of all of this, it wouldn’t be happening without her. She supports me personally too, she’s much more about making an impact than making a lot of noise and that really means a lot to me.

I know you tweet and instagram a lot about the brand Love Your Melon, the organization helping to improve the lives of children battling cancer. Tell me a little bit more about this?

What they do and how vocal their brand is and the confidence that they give people who are going through something that difficult I think is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking, so I really wanted to be a part of it. A cousin of mine is working very, very intensely with this charity through her school so she asked me if I would jump on this campaign again and I said absolutely. Again, I’m very blessed but I also have to be really careful as I have a very impressionable group of fans, they’re at that sort of that age where the right words, or the wrong words, can really make a difference. So anything I can do to promote organizations that are promoting positivity and confidence and helping people out, I’m on board. That’s really important to me and I’ve seen it make a big difference in people’s lives. That’s something I am never going to lose sight of.

With regards to your music and your acting, what can your fans expect from you in the future?

The end of last year I was finishing a lot of projects that I was producing and spearheading on my own which was great. My manager and I are working on producing a film, I’m also writing making and producing a lot of music with one of my best friends in the world which has been really exciting. We do it all in my bedroom and just sit there for hours and turn the knobs and it’s really, really cool. So the end of last year was this sort of weird independent time where I was doing everything myself, all these entrepreneurial side projects.

Lastly what are your 2017 New Year resolutions?

I don’t know if I’ll be able to do this but I really want to try. I want to try and release a song a month in 2017. I have the capabilities to do it, I have the support to do it and I definitely have the passion for it. I love music and I’ve learnt some invaluable lessons.
