‘Snowpiercer’ pioneering new method of movie distribution … ‘So It Is’ July 20, 2014 Snowpierce is a movie based on the French graphic novel “Le Transperceneige” by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette directed by Joon-ho Bong. The movie features Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, and the AMAZING Tilda Swinton. Snowpiercer was a success abroad last year and broke box-office records in South Korea. Anticipation in America was high to see the film when it was released on June 27 – in only eight theaters – and digitally via Video On Demand outlets, just weeks after its debut in theaters. “Snowpiercer” then skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on iTunes and other platforms less than a day after its launch. If like me, sometimes you do not feel like sharing a space with people sipping on their long-empty-full-of-ice XL drink and pop corn eaters then having the luxury to pay $6.99 is literally a dream come true. You also have the option to buy the movie in HD with special features for $14.99. I know sometimes it is ‘better’ to see it on a big screen but sometimes you just have a huge flat screen tv and a really comfy sofa at home and even if theaters won’t be leaving us anytime soon, I believe the bright future of movies is right here in our living rooms. Talking about the future, it was not a bright one for our ‘Snowpiercer’ survivors. Set in a world the world wiped out of all life by a new unfortunate-man-made Ice Age, only those living in the Snow Piercer, a train that travels on a globe-spanning track survived. A class system is installed, with the elites inhabiting the front of the train and poor inhabiting the tail … Personally I loved the movie on so many levels. First, Tilda Swinton delivers an amazing performance, she is a sort of Princess Leia gone terribly wrong. Chris Evans can do no wrong to my eyes and overall the cast is just perfection. Now that being said if you see Snowpiercer as just a futuristic action movie you may be among the few people who are not sure of what they just saw. I knew next to nothing about the story and I have not even watched the trailer once – which is one of my favorite things when I go to see a movie – to know as little as possible. My thoughts are simple I LOVED it. This movie is amazing on so many levels it will keep you thinking about it and the more I think about what we saw last night, the more I love this movie. Snowpiercer maybe set in ‘action’ but the film quickly becomes a horrifying, social commentary that bites close to the bone. It’s violent, often absurd, unfair, full of brilliant surprises, sometimes blissful, full of hope then suddenly dark, it’s life. The messages referring to the absurdity of life are just mind-blowing. It’s about what we want, what we think rules us, what we discover along the way, the connection and when you get lucky to live long enough taking time to reflect on the decisions you made, was it fair, was it necessary … and ‘life’ one way or another continues with or without us. #mindblowing.
