BELLO Mag: What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Daniel Chinchilla: I actually wanted to be a teacher. I guess I admired my teachers so much that I wanted to be like them.

BM: When did you start doing makeup and how did you choose it as a career?
DC: When I was 19, I decided to take a break from college. I needed to figure out what I wanted to do in life. I walked into the beauty section at Nordstrom and fell in love with the energy. I applied and instantly got the job. I didn’t know much about makeup, but I loved the power of making someone feel beautiful.

BM: What do you enjoy the most about your job?
DC: I love figuring out what type of look my clients want and executing it. I also love when they look in the mirror in the end and are so excited about their look. It is super rewarding.

BM: How would you describe your style as a makeup artist?
DC: I love skin! I am really big on accentuating someone’s beauty. I feel like for the most part, that is what makeup is about. Glowing skin, soft and sexy eyes and healthy looking lips.

BM: What has you biggest “pinch me” moment?
DC: I think it would have to be when I was backstage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It felt so surreal. I couldn’t even believe that I was there and doing makeup. It was always a dream of mine, and I was wondering when I would wake up.

BM: Who is someone you haven’t worked with yet, but would love to?
DC: I can’t pick one so I’ll pick three. Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid and Kerry Washington. I love that they are not afraid to take risks, and love makeup. Makeup is supposed to be fun, and they seem to understand that, I love it!

BM: All-time favorite tip or trick?
DC: Priming! People underestimate the importance of priming the skin before makeup. It makes a world of difference in how your makeup wears throughout the day and ensures a nice smooth finish. It is a must!

BM: What trends are you excited about for this season?
DC: I am really excited about the return of blush! We have all been stuck on this bronzer/contour phase and blush was forgotten about. Finally, pops of color on the cheeks are back.

BM: What is your makeup pet peeve?
DC: I think my pet peeve is seeing unblended contour lines. It just starts to look really harsh, so it is better to soften those up for a more natural finish.

BM: What inspires you in your work?
DC: My favorite beauty magazines like Allure, Cosmopolitan, and InStyle inspire me. I love seeing all of the cool new products and trends. My clients also inspire me! I love making them look and feel amazing, and love that they put their trust in me.

BM: What are your top five go-to products right now?
DC: Some of my favorites right now are the Smashbox Primers, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, Maybelline 14 Hour Lipstick, Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation and Urban Decay Blushes. You have to top the look off with a signature fragrance. One of my favorite scents right now is ARI by Ariana Grande. You can get it at Ulta Beauty and has an amazing feminine scent.

BM: What’s next for you?
DC: I am currently touring with Ariana Grande on her Honeymoon Tour, which takes up a majority of my time. It is an amazing experience that I am so grateful for, and excited to figure out what is coming next. While on tour, I’m also celebrating the launch of Ariana’s fragrance and hair mist, Ari by Ariana Grande, with Ulta Beauty. It is a really exciting time to be with her and see all of this come together.

BM: How do you spend your time outside of work?
DC: I love to go out to eat and shop. I am a shopaholic for sure. I also feel like I never get sick of makeup and beauty products. I am always at the store looking at new products and checking out what I am going to buy next. It is so fun to me, and I am glad its part of my job. It is the perfect excuse to buy whatever I want.

BM: What advice would you give someone who wants to be a makeup artist?
DC: Practice and then practice some more! You will never know everything and that is the fun part about it. Also, you do not need to have the most expensive makeup to achieve flawless finishes. There are great products in every line. It’s all about finding the ones that you love.
